Prince Edward Island (Canada) building breakwaters in effort to protect West Point Lighthouse and Cedar Dunes Park
In an effort to protect Cedar Dunes Provincial Park and West Point Lighthouse from erosion, the province of PEI is installing six breakwaters along the popular tourist area’s section of West Point shore. The work is expected to continue until March. The province is spending $1.4 million to stave off the worst of the erosion.

Hamilton (ON, Canada) Beach Canal Lighthouse back in local hands, will be moved to allow public access
Hamilton’s lighthouse is making big moves. The ownership of the light station will be transferred to the Hamilton-Oshawa Port Authority (HOPA) from the federal government, CEO Ian Hamilton announced last week. The move will mark the beginning of a larger restoration project of the Fisherman’s Pier, where the lighthouse is located, at the entrance to Hamilton Harbor.

You can now take a tour to Raffles Lighthouse on Pulau Satumu (Singapore)
If you’re ever curious about exploring a mysterious lighthouse on a remote island, here’s an opportunity to do so. Raffles Lighthouse, which was built in 1855, will be opening its doors to visitors. The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore is conducting regular tours on the second and fourth Saturday of the month for a rare sneak peek into life at Raffles Lighthouse.

Hartland Point Lighthouse lens stolen (England)
A Fresnel lens from Hartland Point Lighthouse in Devon, England, was in storage for refurbishment when it was stolen on January 24. The lens is valued at about £1m, or $1.36 million.

The Marshall Point Lighthouse organization offers three college scholarships to residents of St. George, Maine. The deadline is April 22.

100-year-old lens removed from St Catherine’s Lighthouse (England) as part of modernization
As part of the ongoing modernization of Trinity House’s lighthouses across England, Wales, Gibraltar and the Channel Islands, the Fresnel lens at St Catherine’s has been removed and placed in storage.
