Join Preservation Virginia and as follow the life and time of Willis Augustus Hodges, Cape Henry Lighthouse’s only African American keeper. An avid abolitionist, Hodges left his mark throughout Virginia and New York in the 1800s. The presentation will examine primary sources and will include quotes from his autobiography.

Jeremy D’Entremont is the author of more than 20 books and hundreds of articles on lighthouses and maritime history. He is the president and historian for the American Lighthouse Foundation and founder of Friends of Portsmouth Harbor Lighthouses, and he has lectured and narrated cruises throughout the Northeast and in other regions.
