Southport fire crews practice rescuing medical patients from top of Oak Island (NC) Lighthouse
SOUTHPORT, NC (WWAY) — Medical incidents don’t always occur in easy-to-access places.
With that in mind, crews with the Southport Fire Department recently took part in rescue training from the top of Oak Island Lighthouse.

Scottish Lighthouse workers to strike over pay
Lighthouse workers are set to strike in a dispute over pay with more than 90 per cent supporting NLB (Northern Lighthouse Board) action.
The NLB maintains 208 lighthouses throughout Scotland with ten major lighthouses in Shetland.

Newport’s Lighthouse Point opens on Jersey City waterfront (PHOTOS)
Newport officials officially unveiled its newest open space on the Hudson River Waterfront Walkway, the 12,000-square-foot Lighthouse Point.
“The opening of this space is yet another example of Newport’s commitment to the people of Jersey City,” Jeremy Farrell, managing director at Newport said after members of Lefrak and Simon cut the ribbon. “This is a place for people to gather, enjoy and take in the views that are inextricably linked to this neighborhood.”

Volunteer Docents Sought for Pemaquid Point Lighthouse, ME
As the summer season approaches, the Friends of the Pemaquid Point Lighthouse seek volunteer docents dedicated to educating and engaging visitors about the rich history of the lighthouse and its Maine coastal surroundings.
Docents provide information regarding the lighthouse’s construction and renovations, the lives of keepers, and events that have occurred at the site

Brant Point Lighthouse (MA) Gets Long-Awaited Paint Job And Maintenance
The Brant Point Lighthouse received a long-awaited paint job Friday morning along with other maintenance work, and the landmark is now looking better than it has in years.
The Coast Guard’s Aids to Navigation team based in Woods Hole visited the island on Friday to complete the work, which island residents and town officials had been requesting for years as the iconic lighthouse had fallen into a state of decay.

2 Upper Peninsula Michigan lighthouses, Rock of Ages Lighthouse and Eagle Harbor Lighthouse, slated for restoration program
UPPER PENINSULA — The State of Michigan lays claim to many trophies. To name a few:
- #1 producer of tart cherries
- Longest freshwater coastline (3,200 miles)
- The state with the only authentic, operating Dutch windmill
- Second most agriculturally diverse state in the nation, after California
And, of course, Michigan has the most lighthouses of any state in the nation, with 120 lighthouses dotting the shoreline.

Canada is still hiring a lighthouse keeper’s (various locations) in BC, and it pays pretty well
If you’ve ever dreamed of being a lighthouse keeper, the Government of Canada is hiring for just the job for qualified BC and Canadian residents.
The job in question is assistant lightkeeper, and it is offered through Fisheries and Oceans Canada and the Canadian Coast Guard.

Sandy Neck, MA: A Historic Colony on a Sandy Spit
WEST BARNSTABLE – Sandy Neck Beach in West Barnstable, one of the longest beaches on Cape Cod, has an interesting history.
To see that history requires off-roading.
Along the Sandy Neck trails leading to the peninsula’s tip is where the true heart and soul of the area is found.
