Come visit a historic 175-year-old Pointe Aux Barques Michigan lighthouse in Port Hope this summer
PORT HOPE, MI — For Great Lakes history buffs and those planning fun summer activities with the family, a historic lighthouse in Port Hope is a destination to add to the list.
The Pointe aux Barques Lighthouse ranks among the ten oldest lighthouses in Michigan, according to its website. It is an active lighthouse maintained remotely by the U.S. Coast Guard.

East Hampton’s Cedar Island (NY) lighthouse ‘labor of love’ keeps trudging with new funding
When architect Lee Skolnick thinks about the future of Cedar Island Lighthouse, he envisions a museum with exhibits that highlight its unique maritime history.
The lighthouse, which was built in 1868 and overlooks Gardiners Bay as a gateway to Sag Harbor, for decades has sat in disrepair on county land in East Hampton Town.

Work for Huron Island (MI) Lighthouse announced
BIG BAY — The Huron Island Lighthouse Preservation Association, in cooperation with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, has announced the summer 2023 work plan for the structures on Lighthouse Island in the Huron Islands. These efforts are being made to ensure that the historic nature of the island is preserved for future generations.
Burt Mason, president of HILPA, said in a news release, “There will be additional boats moored at the boat dock, several work crews on the island and some overnight camping by work crews at various times this summer so we apologize in advance for any inconvenience to island visitors. Please be patient with us as preserving these historic structures for the future surely outweighs any slight inconvenience that may occur from time to time this summer.”

Light is out at important and historic Gibbs Hill, Bermuda, lighthouse
Gibbs Hill Lighthouse is out of operation leading to navigation warnings being issued to marine traffic.
A spokeswoman for the Department of Marine and Ports Services confirmed a light bulb atop the 117-foot structure was broken and that the lighthouse has been out of operation since Sunday evening, when the outage was reported just after sunset.

2023 Live @ The Lighthouse event in Fairport Harbor (OH) will offer free concerts in July, August
Fairport Harbor Arts & Culture Alliance has announced the lineup of bands for its third annual Live @ The Lighthouse Concert Series, which will consist of two outdoor shows.
Reggae in the Harbor will be the theme of a concert on July 8, while Jerry Garcia’s Birthday Celebration is slated for Aug. 5.

From a replica Jupiter Inlet lighthouse to 1000 mermaids, 7 sensational Florida artificial reefs
The 17-foot tall replica of the Jupiter lighthouse was successfully deployed in the middle of the Andrew Red Harris Foundation No Shoes Reef site off the Jupiter Inlet in October 2017.

UK Lighthouse workers stage 24-hour strike
Workers at the body that maintains the Island’s lighthouses are taking strike action today over pay.
At midday, Unite members at the Northern Lighthouse Board will walk out for 24 hours after rejecting a 2 per cent pay rise offer from management.

Children Invited to Explore STEAM at Piney Point Lighthouse Museum in Maryland
Calling all young adventurers! The Piney Point Lighthouse Museum offers a four-day STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) program for children between the ages of 7 and 13.
From July 18 to 21, 2023, kids will have the opportunity to engage in outdoor science and exploration activities at the museum located in Leonardtown, Maryland.

National Lighthouse Day Dance Contest
The U.S. Lighthouse Society is holding a National Lighthouse Day Dance Contest this summer, and Joe Rivers has written and performed an original song for the occasion. Joe is interviewed in this episode about his ideas behind the song.
