Historic Tawas Point (MI) Lighthouse restoration work completed
IOSCO COUNTY, MI — The historic lighthouse at Tawas Point State Park will reopen to the public in 2024 following a successful restoration effort this year.
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) said contractors have completed repairs to the 136-year-old lighthouse at Tawas Point on Lake Huron, which has been closed throughout 2023.

The future of the Sanibel Lighthouse, FL
Nearly eight months ago, we saw the light return to the Sanibel Lighthouse. Now, leaders want to make sure it stays that way.
As the lighthouse stands steadfast on the sand for now, the Sanibel city council believes they can make it even more permanent before the next big storm.

Historic Point Cabrillo (CA) Lighthouse lens is once again guiding mariners after repairs
Almost 90 years after it was first installed in the historic Point Cabrillo Lighthouse, the 1937 motor that has long helped guide mariners through the night along the Mendocino Coast is back in service.
The famed British-built Fresnel lens that flashes from atop the more than century-old lighthouse had been stilled since Dec. 29, when a gear in the aging motor failed, shutting it down altogether until repairs could be made.

Beacon of Hope: Duluth lighthouse restored after being vandalized
Duluth, MN – The Northern Pier Lighthouse just off the Lake Superior was given an unkind mark earlier this summer.
The lighthouse, which is sandwiched between the Aerial Lift Bridge and Lake Superior is one of the most iconic landmarks in the city.

‘Beneath the Light’ films at Lorain (OH) Lighthouse
LORAIN — Filmmaker John Baumgartner watched as actor Zach Tinker brought his character, Jacob, to life outside the Lorain Lighthouse on Tuesday afternoon.
Against the backdrop of choppy waves and passing boats, Jacob was tempted to release the pallet from an overloaded crane as part of a suspenseful series of events in the feature film, Baumgartner said.

Oak Island, NC Lighthouse see record number of visitors in 2023
The Oak Island Lighthouse has had a record-breaking year in 2023. Visitors from across the country continue making the trip to Caswell Beach for a chance to climb North Carolina’s youngest lighthouse, and the numbers show no signs of slowing down.
“Every month this year we’ve surpassed any of our previous records,” said Bob Ahlers, chairman of Friends of Oak Island Lighthouse (FOIL), an all-volunteer organization that maintains the facility and provides the guided tours. “This year we’re projected to do more than 6,000 climbers.”

Heceta Head (OR) Lighthouse Holds Ghost Tours at Keepers Quarters: Florence, Oregon Coast

Special Grand Views, Characters Tours At Split Rock (MN) Lighthouse
TWO HARBORS (WJON News) — The Split Rock Lighthouse is arguably one of the most photographed places in the state, but how do visitors get those photos?
The site is now offering tours to show you. The Grand Views Tour is on Saturdays through mid-October. It starts at 8:30 a.m. with a two-hour hike from the lighthouse to the state park.
