Repairs and tours at Neds Point Lighthouse in Mattapoisett, MA

Neds Point Lighthouse in southeastern Massachusetts is managed by Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 63, which is opening the 1838 tower for public tours. The Flotilla currently plans to offer June tours of the lighthouse on Friday June 21 and Thursday June 27 from 4 to 7 p.m. In July, the group will offer tours every Tuesday from 3 to 7 p.m. on Friday, July 5 from 4 to 7 p.m.,on Saturday July 6, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and on July 11, 19 and 25 from 4 to 8 p.m.

The lighthouse will be renovated in the coming months. Labor will be provided by prison inmates in the Plymouth County Sheriff’s department.

Injunction against Wings Neck Lighthouse (MA) owner

A Barnstable County Superior Court judge has issued a preliminary injunction against the owner of Wings Neck Lighthouse in Bourne on Cape Cod, Massachusetts. The injunction prohibits the owner from allowing renters to use her property for special events until a final decision has been rendered.

Two more episodes of “Light Hearted”

In the past week two more episodes of the U.S. Lighthouse Society’s podcast “Light Hearted” have been published.

The feature interview in episode 5 is Bob Trapani, Jr., executive director of the American Lighthouse Foundation.

The feature interview in episode 6 is Anne E. Witsenburg of Monumentsfund Aruba, the organization that manages the California Lighthouse near the northern tip of Aruba.

  1. I noticed on Poe Reef the bidder has to be a non-profit…is that a typo or is there some other reason. Not saying it is a bad thing, but never saw that requirement before.
